In Summary
Mr Malugu noted the development yesterday at the African Regional Indigenous People Meeting that was held in Dar es Salaam, and brought together indigenous groups from around the globe.
Tanzania expects to have its national forest standards by next year, making forest harvest activities health for the economy.
WWF forest programme coordinator in Tanzania, who is also in charge of the national standards development, Mr Isaac Malugu, said the country standard development group is finalising the preparations.
Mr Malugu noted the development yesterday at the African Regional Indigenous People Meeting that was held in Dar es Salaam, and brought together indigenous groups from around the globe. They were, among other things, discussing how to address issues that face indigenous communities and also push for proper harvest of forest through certification.
“After finishing preparing them, we will submit to Forest Stewardship Council East Africa regional office for review and thereafter they will be taken to FSC international office for the approval,” said Mr Malugu.
