The Tanzania Association of Tour
Operators (TATO) has donated 85 pieces of mattresses and 370 bed sheets worth
8m/- to Engutoto boys’ secondary school located in Monduli District, Arusha
Region.
On February 3, this year, two
dormitories at the school were burnt to ashes.
Earlier investigations show that the
fire was caused by electric kettle.
Presenting the donation to Arusha
Regional Commissioner, Daud Felix Ntibenda, TATO chairman, Wilbard Chambulo
said: “As organisation we felt sorry for what happened to the school
dormitories, that’s why we came up with this donation at least to reduce the
students’ pains.”
TATO chairman pledged to refurbish
the two dormitories before the end of next month.
He commended good relations between
tour operators and the government.
He however called on the government
to improve security in the tourism sector.
For his part RC Ntibenda, commended
TATO for their quick response and the donation to the school, calling other
players to emulate that spirit, as there are still 185 students who have
nowhere to sleep and some of them have no clothes.
He said text books and other
learning materials are highly needed as most of them were burnt in the fire.
The RC commended IPP Executive
Chairman Dr Reginald Mengi for donating 25m/- to the school.
He however directed the Tanzania
Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) to work on the cause of fore accident
at the school.
Monduli District Commissioner,
Jowika Kasunga, informed the RC that when the fire happened, students were in
classrooms; hence no one hurt in the accident.
“The challenge here is that students
have no clothes and beds as all of their belongings were burnt to ashes during
the tragedy.”
